In celebration this week:
- Barrelhouse Jazz Band (BJB) will play a prelude medley of “September in the Rain”, “Canal St. Blues”, “Washington and Lee Swing”
- Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
- Next, Holly Osborne will lead us in a Gathering Prayer for the Lord’s Day (a sabbath poem by Wendell Berry)
- the opening hymn will be “Lord, I Want to be a Christian”,
- next Holly will lead the Prayer For Peace (“The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry)
- Claire Kelly will lead a celebration of September birthdays
- Time with Children is next
- Invitations will be presented
- The Special Music will be “Try to Remember” (BJB)
- Holly will read from scripture: Romans 13:8-14 (pg 162 in the pew bible)
- Rev. Ben Daniel will deliver a sermon,
- next we will sing the Hymn of Response, “Though I May Speak With Bravest Fire”
- followed by passing the offering plates; the offertory will be “”Pennies from Heaven/All of Me” (BJB)
- we will celebrate communion together, while BJB plays “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”
- the closing hymn will be “Lead Me Guide Me”,
- we will recite the Charge together
- a benediction will be offered
- followed by a postlude, “When the Saints Go Marching In” (BJB)
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
