From the Pastor’s Pen

Friends,

I want to give you a bit of an update around plans to return indoors for celebration on Sunday Mornings.

At its last meeting the reopening task force set Sunday, October 24 as the tentative date for our first Sunday in the sanctuary with the understanding that:

  • Masks will be required,
  • Strict social distancing protocols will be in place
  • Efforts to increase ventilation will be employed, and
  • Everyone able to be vaccination will need to be vaccinated or have a negative COVID test within three days of each Sunday.

I know this last bullet point will be the most difficult to enforce, and we don’t yet know what enforcement will look like. However, the best way to make it easier is for everyone to get vaccinated.

For those who want to come to celebration but don’t want to risk the possible exposures of indoor celebration, the service will be streamed on a big-screen TV in the courtyard (or, in case of inclement weather, under the Thornhill walkway).

Other precautions around things like singing, taking communion, entering and exiting have yet to be worked out, but we will do our best to keep everyone informed and in the loop.

More than anything, I appreciate your patience. What we know about COVID-19 is evolving almost as fast as the virus itself, and the Re-opening Taskforce has been doing a really good job of trying to bring us back together in a way that is safe. In order to get us back indoors, we’ve had to change directions a few times and we’ve acted with an abundance of caution. Again, I appreciate your understanding.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have, and, if you haven’t already done so, please get vaccinated.

God’s Peace,

Ben
