Celebration Worship Service, September 3rd

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Barrelhouse Jazz Band will play a prelude, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”,
  • Katie will welcome everyone to Celebration.
  • Deborah Brooks will lead us in the Call to Celebration, (by Rev. Katherine Hawker, adapted)
  • The opening hymn will be “Shall We Gather at the River”.
  • Next, Deborah will lead us in a Prayer for Peace (by Rev. Michael Neuroth).
  • Debbie Fallehy will lead the September birthday celebration,
  • then we will have a Time With Children.
  • Invitations are next.
  • Than Deborah will read aloud the scripture reading from Jeremiah 15:15-21
  • Next, Rev Riana Shaw Robinson will share a sermon,
  • The Hymn of Response is “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness”,
  • The offering plates will be passed next, while Barrelhouse Jazz Band plays an offertory, “Amazing Grace”..
  • Next we will celebrate communion, while Barrelhouse plays “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”
  • The closing hymn will be “Down by the Riverside”.
  • We will recite the Charge,
  • Katie will offer a benediction
  • followed by a postlude from Barrelhouse, “Saints Go Marching In”.

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
