CLIMATE POLICY ADVOCACY

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”

Saint Teresa de Avila

God’s magnificent Earth is beset by a climate emergency of our making, and we are the ones who must end it. There is much work to do and do immediately.

Individual actions are important, but alone they aren’t enough. New policies must be implemented to transform our global energy system in a socially equitable and just way, and there is no time to waste.

Such policies can be adopted only with strong, diverse climate leadership and a functioning democracy.

The 2024 elections will be every bit as important as 2020 to the fate of the climate.  We must help ensure strong voter turnout, something especially urgent given voter suppression attempts and election interference efforts now underway in some states.

What we can do:

  • Help low-propensity and disenfranchised voters get to the polls through the non-partisan Center for Common Ground which offers postcarding and phone-banking.

These efforts are urgent now and are already underway. And this work can all be done from the comfort of your home! If you’d like to write postcards to get out the vote, join a phone-bank, or canvass with others from MPC please email the office to connect with us!

  • Pressure elected officials to take strong and equitable actions on climate change.  Sign up for action alerts from Interfaith Power and Light and 350BayArea for current actions you can take to influence climate policies.
  • Donations to all these groups above also help a lot!

A team of over 100 MPCers is taking action together on the items above. Please join us! To get involved, contact the MPC main office so our Earth Care Democracy & Politics team may reach out to you.
