Celebration Worship Service, September 17th

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The Ruling Elders will play “Good Day for a Good Day” by Michael Franti;
  • Katie will welcome everyone to Celebration;
  • Shelley Kelly will lead us in the Call to Celebration (Teresa of Avila, 16th century);
  • The opening hymn will be “Called as Partners in Christ’s Service”;
  • Next, Shelley will lead us in a Prayer for Peace (by Mark H. Lanfried);
  • Then we will have a Time With Children;
  • Invitations are next;
  • We will hear the MPC Choir with a piece entitled “Bonse Aba”, a Zambian folk song, arr. Victor C. Johnson;
  • Then Shelley will read aloud the scripture reading from 1 Corinthians;
  • Next, Katie will share a Reflection;
  • Then we Celebrate the Work of the People with a “roll call” expressing our gratitude for those who lead, serve, and share their gifts with MPC and the broader community;
  • The Hymn of Response is “Today We All Are Called to be Disciples”;
  • There will be a pastoral prayer next;
  • Cindy Gullikson will present God’s Work in the World: “Minute for Mission – Peace Offering”;
  • The offering plates will be passed while the MPC Handchimes Ensemble plays “Da Pacem Cordium”;
  • The closing hymn will be We Walk in Love”;
  • We will recite the Charge;
  • Katie will offer a benediction;
  • Followed by a postlude from The Ruling Elders: “Brown-Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
