Celebration Worship Service, October 18th

From Rev. Talitha –

I hope you will join us this week for Celebration. This week Rev. Ben has been away on vacation so you get to see plenty of me… plus a special guest. I will be on vacation the weekend of Halloween so I decided to bring out my Halloween costume early. With great thanks to the Yule Feast Closet and the magic of Deb Brooks, I’ll be bringing you a monologue from Queen Esther, who has some important reflections for us to hear in these days of political posturing and anxiety.

Thank you to everyone who put together this week’s service!

You can submit comments and prayer requests via our Comments Form at mpcfamily.org/comments . We’d love to hear from you!

If you are visiting today, we hope you’ll fill out our online Visitor Card at mpcfamily.org/hello .

  • The MPC Brass Quartet (Kel Bowen, Dean Elia, William Keys, and Annalise King) will give us the prelude: Gavotte in B flat, by Johann Pachelbel
  • I will welcome us and…
  • Members of the Hansen family (Jenn and Adah Esther) will call us to Celebration.
  • The opening hymn is “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”.
  • The Prayer for Peace was written by Teri Peterson and is read by Kristen Bank.
  • Sally Cole-White did an amazing job reading excerpts from the book of Esther (with all the complicated Persian names).
  • Queen Esther herself will address you in the spot where we ordinarily have a sermon!
  • Kim provides today’s special music, a protest song “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round.”
  • The prayer is from the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship,
  • the Closing Hymn is “Arise Your Light Is Come,” played by Marcia,
  • and the closing video includes an invitation to our upcoming Interfaith Harvest Gathering.

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
