Celebration Worship Service, March 24th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The prelude will be a palm processional, while we sing “Hosanna to the son of David”, text from Matthew 21:9; music by Dan Schutte
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • then Cindy Gullikson will lead us in a Call to Celebration (Eastern Orthodox, adapted)
  • The opening hymn will be “All Glory, Laud, and Honor”       
  • Next, Cindy will lead us in a Prayer of Reconciliation (from India, adapted) and prayers of confession
  • followed by a Time with Children (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • Invitations will be presented next
  • then the MPC Choir will perform “Ain’t No Rock Gonna Shout For Me”, Words based on Luke 19:38-40; music by Lloyd Larson; Kim Rankin directing
  • Susan Spore will read from Psalm 118:19-20, and Cindy will read from Mark 11:1-11
  • Rev. Ben Daniel will deliver a sermon, “The Magic of Holy Week”
  • Then we will sing the hymn of response, “A Cheering, Chanting, Dizzy Crowd”
  • the Pastoral prayer is next,
  • then we will ordain and install the new class of Elders
  • Pat Schwinn will bring us a “God’s Work in the World” on the One Great Hour of Sharing
  • The offering plates will be passed while we sing “When Jesus Wept”, accompanied by a handchime ensemble
  • The closing hymn will be “Ride on! Ride On in Majesty!”
  • We will recite the Charge together
  • There will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude from Marcia Roy


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
