Celebration Worship Service, October 29th

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Marcia Roy will play a prelude, “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott”, by Martin Luther, setting by Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707)
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration,
  • Martha Smith will lead us in the Call to Celebration (inspired by a prayer by John Calvin)
  • The opening hymn will be “Now Thank We All Our God” .
  • Next, Martha will lead us in a Prayer for Peace (inspired by a prayer by Martin Luther),
  • then we will have a Time with Children.
  • Invitations are next.
  • Next is the MPC Choir anthem: “I Still Have Joy”, by Danny McCrimmon, J.C. Jackson; arr. P. Amidon
  • Then Martha will read aloud the scripture reading from Psalms 90:1-6
  • Next, Ben will share a sermon.
  • The song of response will be “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past”,
  • The offering plates will be passed while Marcia plays an offertory, “We Thank Thee, Lord Jesus Christ” by Dietrich Buxtehude,
  • Next comes a Pastoral Prayer.
  • The closing hymn will be “Holy God, We Praise Your Name”
  • We will recite the Charge together,
  • There will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude from Marcia, “Toccata in F Major” by Dietrich Buxtehude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
