Celebration Worship Service, August 29th

In Celebration this week:

  • Kim will provide a prelude on the piano, Two Chorale Preludes: “Blessed Jesus, We Are Here”, and “Now Is Salvation Come Unto Us” by J.S. Bach,
  • Rev Ben will welcome folks to Celebration, and
  • Brenda Steinmetz-Vallenas will lead us in a Call to Celebration, adapted from a World Council of Churches liturgy.
  • The opening hymn is, “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness”,
  • Clementina will lead us in a prayer for peace, adapted from a World Council of Churches liturgy
  • then Brenda will read Mark 7:1-23.
  • Rev Ben will preach a sermon, “The Spirit, Not the Letter”,
  • The hymn of response is, “Open Your Ears, O Faithful People” (Torah Ora) ,
  • Clementina will lead us in prayer,
  • Offering,
  • The closing hymn is ““Lord, Dismiss Us With Your Blessing”, and
  • Brenda will lead us in the Charge and Rev Ben will offer a benediction.
  • Marcia will provide a postlude, “Allegro Maestoso” by G. F. Handel

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
