Celebration Worship Service, June 28th

From Rev Ben:

For celebration this week, I have been trying to improve my post-production video skills using Apple’s iMovie software, and I’m having fun—maybe too much fun—as I learn to edit. The link to Celebration, with all of its splicing and fading and subtitles, is below.

This week, Talitha has been ably representing the Presbytery of San Francisco at our denomination’s General Assembly, which she (like everyone else) has joined via Zoom. We are grateful to Talitha for her faithful work on our behalf.

You can submit comments and prayer requests via our Comments Form at mpcfamily.org/comments . We’d love to hear from you!

If you are visiting today, we hope you’ll fill out our online Visitor Card at mpcfamily.org/hello .

  • Marcia will play the prelude: Praise the Lord, Rise Up Rejoicing Arr. Dale Wood
  • I am welcoming you to celebration while cleaning my dining room table,
  • Clementina Chacon will call us to celebration. Clementina is a Commissioned Lay Pastor in the Presbytery of San Francisco, and is a friend of the MPC Family,
  • The opening hymn is “Praise, I Will Praise You Lord,” a hymn I first sang in French at Cathedrale St. Pierre in Geneva and was happy to find in English in our hymnals,
  • Chad DeWitt and James Cook lead us in the prayer for peace, which they filmed from their home near Lake Merritt,
  • Doug Brooks reads Matthew 10:40-42,
  • I am preaching from my kitchen,
  • Kim and Marcia will provide special music: Contredanse en Rondo, WA Mozart
  • I am leading the pastoral prayer, using a prayer written my dear friend Stephen Deitrich,
  • The closing hymn is “O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee,” and
  • The closing video features announcements by Tim Bank, an invitation from Gretchen Garlinghouse, and a charge and benediction from me.

PRAISE, I WILL PRAISE YOU LORD

  1. Praise, I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart. O God, I will tell the wonders of your ways, and glorify your name. Praise, I will praise you Lord, with all my heart. In you I will find the source of all my joy. Alleluia!
  2. Love, I will love you, Lord, with all my heart. O God, I will tell the wonders of your ways, and glorify your name. Love, I will love you Lord, with all my heart. In you I will find the source of all my joy. Alleluia!
  3. Serve, I will serve you, Lord, with all my heart. O God, I will tell the wonders of your ways, and glorify your name. Serve, I will serve you Lord, with all my heart. In you I will find the source of all my joy. Alleluia!

O MASTER, LET ME WALK WITH THEE

  1. O Master, let me walk with Thee in lowly paths of service free; tell me Thy secret; help me bear the strain of toil, the fret of care.
  2. Help me the slow of heart to move by some clear, winning word of love; teach me the wayward feet to stay, and guide them in the homeward way.
  3. Teach me Thy patience, still with Thee in closer, dearer company, in work that keeps faith sweet and strong, in trust that triumphs over wrong.
  4. In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future’s broad’ning way; in peace that only Thou canst give, with Thee, O Master, let me live.

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
