Should BP Be Allowed to Drill More Wells?

Last July I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days on the Texas coast near Mustang Island. The weather was hot and humid and the Gulf of Mexico was beautifully inviting. Fish were jumping almost constantly out of the water and a variety of birds were happily taking advantage of the active fish! One could almost forget that tragedy had…

Meditation On The Cycles of Life

On Sept. 25, Rev. Beth took a different approach to the sermon time. She led us in a guided meditation on the cycles of life. To listen to this as a podcast you will need to make some time and quiet space to experience it. Go to the sermon detail page

George Somers' Art Show and Silent Auction

George Somers Artwork Sample George Somers has generously offered to donate his artwork to raise money for MPC! The church will receive 100% of the proceeds. Coming Out of the Jesus Closet

Aloha!

Get ready for the Fall Kickoff Sunday – celebrating the start of a new school and church program year. The full choir is back, Godly Play classes will resume, the new Beacon program will be rolled out, and everyone gets a chance to enjoy food and fellowship with one another. This is a great time to visit, or to bring a friend who hasn’t been to church before. We’ll be in Hawaiian shirts, so no worries about formal dress!

People you think might be calm, cool and collected become frantic and anxious and absolutely no help whatsoever. Conversely, people who are normally anxious and tightly wound become more calm and rational in the midst of crisis. The point is…

A wonderful place to grow and learn

When I was a child, my parents agreed that I ought to be raised in a … hmm … “thoughtful community interested in matters of the spirit”?? “Church” is easier to say, but harder to implement. Dad was an atheist, Mom was a believer, so I of course was an agnostic. MPC is a wonderful place to grow and learn, but I…

Challenge, purpose, support, and fellowship

For me, it’s the community. Of course, that’s something that grows gradually; when I first started attending MPC nine years ago, I didn’t know anyone. I was visiting all the local churches, looking for a new spiritual home, and found myself in an MPC pew. Over the next few Sundays, I was drawn in by the music, the preaching, and the welcoming…
