In celebration this week:
- The prelude is a medley from Barrelhouse Jazz Band, “Home”, “Down by the Riverside”, “The Second Line”
- Rev. Ben Daniel will welcome everyone to Celebration
- Lin Gentry will lead us in an Opening Response (from Iona)
- the opening hymn will be “God Welcomes All”,
- next Lin will lead us in the Prayer fof Confession and Renewal (from Iona)
- then it’s Time with Children
- Invitations are next
- Special Music will be performed by Barrelhouse, “September in the Rain”
- followed by Lin reading from the Scriptures, from Luke 14:7-14
- Rev. Ben Daniel will preach a sermon,
- the Hymn of Response is “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”
- Prayers of the People are next
- then the offering plates will be passed, and Barrelhouse will play an offertory, “Ten Cents a Dance”
- the closing hymn will be “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- followed by a postlude, “When the Saints Go Marching In” and “Joe Avery Blues” from Barrelhouse
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
