Celebration Worship Service, August 31st, 2025

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The prelude is a medley from Barrelhouse Jazz Band, “Home”, “Down by the Riverside”, “The Second Line”
  • Rev. Ben Daniel will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • Lin Gentry will lead us in an Opening Response (from Iona)
  • the opening hymn will be “God Welcomes All”,
  • next Lin will lead us in the Prayer fof Confession and Renewal (from Iona)
  • then it’s Time with Children
  • Invitations are next
  • Special Music will be performed by Barrelhouse, “September in the Rain”
  • followed by Lin reading from the Scriptures, from Luke 14:7-14
  • Rev. Ben Daniel will preach a sermon,
  • the Hymn of Response is “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”
  • Prayers of the People are next
  • then the offering plates will be passed, and Barrelhouse will play an offertory, “Ten Cents a Dance”
  • the closing hymn will be “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”
  • we will recite the Charge
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude, “When the Saints Go Marching In” and “Joe Avery Blues” from Barrelhouse


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
