Celebration Worship Service, July 20th, 2025

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The Prelude is “O Store Gud” (a Swedish folk tune, arr. Wilbur Held), Marcia Roy, organ
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • Frank Dauby will lead us in an Opening Response (Church of England, adapted)
  • the opening hymn will be “How Great Thou Art”,
  • next Frank will lead us in the Prayer of Gratitude and Confession (from Iona)
  • then it’s Time with Children
  • Invitations are next
  • Special Music will be “Where the Music Comes From” (by Lee Holby), Brenda Steinmetz-Vallenas, soloist; Marcia Roy on piano
  • followed by Frank reading from the Scriptures, from Luke 10:38-42
  • Ben’s sermon is next, titled “Choosing the Better Thing”
  • the hymn of response is “O Savior, In This Quiet Place”
  • next, there will be a Pastoral Prayer
  • then the offering plates will be passed, and Brenda will sing “The Shepherd” (by Lee Holby, text by William Blake (1789))
  • the closing hymn will be “Praise Ye the Lord, The Almighty” (hymn #35, incorrectly listed in the bulletin as #633 Praise Ye the Lord)
  • we will recite the Charge
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
