Missa Gaia major work

The MPC Choir is preparing a very special major choral work this spring.

On Sunday, May 18th at 10am, we will perform Paul Winter’s “Missa Gaia: A Mass in Celebration of Mother Earth.” Composed in 1982 for performance at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the Missa Gaia is an ecumenical liturgy, drawing on musical traditions from Gregorian chant to gospel, Protestant hymnody to contemporary jazz. The Missa Gaia celebrates the interdependence of all life forms on Earth. In addition to the choir and an instrumental ensemble, the work features the recorded voices of the Arctic tundra wolf and humpback whale. This vibrant, unique work is rarely performed.

We can’t wait to share it with you on Sunday, May 18th at 10am –– mark your calendars!
