In celebration this week:
- Barrelhouse Jazz Band will play a prelude, “Easter Parade”, “When You’re Smiling”, “Precious Lord”, and “Canal Street”
- Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
- Shelley Kelly will lead us in a Call to Celebration (Ancient and adapted)
- the opening hymn will be “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”
- next Shelley will lead us in a Prayer for Peace
- then it’s Time with Children
- The MPC Choir will sing “Can He, Could He, Would He, Did He?”, words and music by John Chisum and Dwight Liles with Kim Rankin directing
- Shelley will read from the scriptures, John 20: 1-18
- Rev. Ben Daniel will offer a sermon, “Easter Hope”
- the Hymn of Response will be “I’m Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing”
- the offering plates will be passed, while Barrelhouse plays an offertory, “Pennies from Heaven” and “All of Me”
- next we will celebrate communion
- the closing hymn will be “Glory, Glory, Hallelujah”, a traditional African-American spiritual
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- the postlude is “When the Saints Go Marching In” performed by Barrelhouse
- Barrel house will also play a recessional, “Joe Avery’s Piece”
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
