Celebration Worship Service, February 23rd, 2025

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Marcia Roy will play a prelude, Prelude on the Welsh Tune “Hyfrydol”, arr. Richard Warner
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • Doug Brookes will lead us in a Call to Celebration (from Iona, adapted)
  • the opening hymn will be “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”
  • next Doug will lead us in a Litany of Confession and Reconciliation (from Iona, adapted)
  • then it’s Time with Children, when James Bell will be baptized
  • Invitations are next
  • Kim Rankin will lead the MPC Choir in singing “Beloved, Let Us Love One Another”, by Pepper Choplin
  • Doug will read from the scriptures, Luke 6:27-36
  • Rev. Ben will offer a sermon, “No Need to Have an Enemy”
  • the Hymn of Response will be “Though I May Speak”
  • a Pastoral Prayer will be offered
  • next, Art Paull and La Hkwang will offer a God’s Work in the World
  • then the offering plates will be passed, while an offertory is played, “Les Baricades Mysterieuses” by Francois Couperin (1668-1733)
  • the closing hymn will be “God Be the Love to Search and Keep Me”
  • we will recite the Charge
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
