Celebration Worship Service, July 7th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The Ruling Elders will play a prelude, “For What It’s Worth”, by Buffalo Springfield (written by StephenStills in 1966)
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • then Saralinda Jackson will lead us in a Call to Celebration (World Council of Churches, adapted)                                                
  • The opening hymn will be “Lift Every Voice and Sing”      
  • next, Saralinda will lead us in a Prayer for Peace, (World Council of Churches, adapted)
  • then Debbie Fallehy will lead us in celebrating July birthdays.
  • Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • we will hear invitations after that
  • then Saralinda will read from Matthew 18:1-13
  • Ben will offer a sermon, “Hey Democracy: Grow Up and Act Like a Child”
  • then we will sing the hymn of response, “The Right Hand of God”
  • next will be Prayers of the People
  • then Kira Heller and Suzanne Jones will share God’s Work in the World
  • the offering plates will be passed; the offertory will be “America”, by Simon and Garfunkel and performed by The Ruling Elders
  • next we will celebrate communion
  • the closing song will be “If I Had a Hammer” written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays (1949)
  • we will recite the Charge together
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude, “Peace Train”, by Cat Stevens, arranged by 10,000 Maniacs


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
