Montclair Presbyterian Church members believe that one of the best ways to live out our faith is to take action to help Oakland and surrounding communities. It’s all part of our social justice emphasis, and you are welcome to join us in this work. Here are some examples of what we’ve done recently and what’s coming up next:
Recent/ongoing community action
- Distributing food to the needy via the Fruitvale Food Pantry
- Bagging food at the Food Bank
- Building at Habitat for Humanity
- Taking part in Friday Night Walks to reduce violence in Oakland
- Winter Warmth Drive: 300 coats & socks distributed to the homeless
- Summer Health Drive: 150 health & hygiene bags distributed to the homeless
- Working with Phat Beets to support the community garden at Castlemont High School
Upcoming/planned community action
- Greeting folks & answering questions at the Montclair Farmer’s Market in August
- Marching (and staffing a table) at Oakland Pride in September (see 2016 Pride photos)
- Food of God: serving a meal on the corner of 21st and San Pablo, Oakland (August, November and January)
- Working on a long-term plan to daylight Temescal Creek and naturalize more of our church campus with CA native plants
We’d love to have you join us in this important work! Contact the MPC main office or stop by Sunday celebration to learn more.
