In celebration this week:
- The gathering music is “All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night” (music by Thomas Tallis), MPC Handchime Ensemble
- Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
- Cynthia Blumgart will lead us in a Call to Celebration (Church of Scotland, adapted)
- the opening hymn will be “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”,
- next Cynthia will lead us in the Prayer of Confession (Church of Scotland)
- August birthdays will be celebrated
- then it’s Time with Children
- Invitations are next
- Special Music will be “Lovely Evening” (traditional German canon, arr. Sandra Eithun),
- followed by Cynthia reading from the Scriptures, from Ecclesiastes 1
- Rev. Ben Daniel will preach a sermon, “Holy Contrarian”
- the Hymn of Response is “Faith Begins by Letting Go”
- then the offering plates will be passed,
- after which we will celebrate communion together
- the closing hymn will be “All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night”
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- followed by a postlude
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
