In celebration this week:
- Marcia Roy will play a prelude, “Holy Manna” arr. Sam Batt Owens
- Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
- Tara Flanagan will lead us in a Call to Celebration (World Council of Churches, adapted)
- the opening hymn will be “God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens”
- next Tara will lead us in a Prayer for Reconciliation (World Council of Churches, adapted)
- then it’s Time with Children
- Invitations are next
- Kim Rankin will direct the MPC Choir in singing “Love is Little”, a Shaker song, arr. Kevin Siegfried
- Tara will read from the scriptures, Luke 4:1-13
- Father Galvan will offer a sermon
- the Hymn of Response will be “When We Are Tested”
- next, Rev. Sally Juarez will lead us through a meditative response, with poetry and flute music by Gail Onion
- the offering plates will be passed,
- the closing hymn will be “God of the Sparrow”
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- followed by a postlude
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
