In celebration this week:
- Marcia Roy will play the prelude, “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott” – A Mighty Fortress is Our God, Martin Luther, setting by Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707)
- Rev. Ben Daniel will welcome everyone to Celebration
- then La Hkawng, our international scholar, will lead us in a Call to Celebration ((adapted from Rev. Dr. Letty Russell)
- the opening hymn will be “Praise, I Will Praise You, Lord”
- next, La will lead us in a Prayer for Peace, (adapted from Pr. Mia Pusa, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland)
- Art Paull will introduce La’s newest family member!
- Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
- we will hear invitations after that
- next the MPC Choir will perform an anthem,“This Day”, Jewish prayer; music by Bob Chilcott
- then Ben will read Psalm 130, followed by La’s reading of Mark 10:46-52
- Katie Kilby will offer a sermon,
- then we will sing the hymn of response, “Out of the Depths”
- next there will be a Pastoral Prayer
- the offering plates will be passed while Marcia Roy plays an offertory, “Nun Bitten Wir Den Heilgen Geist” – We pray now to the Holy Spirit, arr Buxtehude
- the closing hymn will be “The Church of Christ in Every Age”
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- followed by a postlude from Marcia, “Toccata in F Major”, Buxtehude
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
