In celebration this week:
- Marcia Roy will play the prelude, “O God of Earth and Altar”, arr. by Dale Wood
- Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
- then Helen Hutchison will lead us in a Call to Celebration (adapted, from Iona)
- the opening hymn will be “Come, Worship God”
- next, Helen will lead us in a Prayer for Peace, (adapted from “Shipwrecked at the Stable Door” by Bruce Cockburn)
- Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
- we will hear invitations after that
- next the MPC Choir will perform an anthem,“African Call to Peace”, by Patrick Liebergen
- then Helen will read Mark 10:35–45
- Rev. Ben Daniel will offer a sermon, “This Isn’t a Game”
- then we will sing the hymn of response, “By All Your Saints Still Striving”
- next there will be a Pastoral Prayer
- Pat Schwinn will share a God’s Work in the World about the Peace Offering
- the offering plates will be passed while Marcia Roy plays an offertory, “Peace in Our Time, O Lord” by Milburn Price, arr. Craig Phillips
- the closing hymn will be “Will You Let Me Be Your Servant”
- we will recite the Charge
- there will be a benediction
- followed by a postlude from Marcia
The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
