Celebration Worship Service, August 11th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Marcia Roy will play the prelude,
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • Then Cheryl Geckeler will lead us in a Call to Celebration (Church of Scotland, adapted)
  • The opening hymn will be “Blessed Jesus, at Your Word”      
  • Next, Cheryl will lead us in a Litany of Peace and Reconciliation, (Church of Scotland, adapted)
  • Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • We will hear invitations after that
  • Next Andrew Newell will sing “All Through the Night”, accompanied by Marcia, a traditional Welsh Melody, arr. by Bruce W. Tippette
  • Then Myoung Ho Sin will read Ephesians 4:25-5:2
  • Rev. Ben Daniel will offer a sermon, “Kindness is Everything”
  • Then we will sing the hymn of response, “Though I May Speak”
  • Next will be the Pastoral Prayer
  • Art Paull and Myoung Ho Sin will offer a “God’s Work in the World” about the Berkeley Presbyterian Mission Homes
  • The offering plates will be passed while Andrew sings “Simple Gifts”, an American melody, arr. by Patti Drennan
  • The closing hymn will be “All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night”
  • We will recite the Charge together
  • There will be a benediction
  • Followed by a postlude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
