Celebration Worship Service, August 4th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Kim Rankin will play the prelude, “Sonata in E Minor”, by Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757), adapted by Kim Rankin
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • then Claire Kelly will lead us in a Call to Celebration (from Iona)
  • The opening hymn will be “What is This Place”      
  • next, Claire will lead us in a Prayer for Reconciliation, (from Iona)
  • Debbie Fallehy will lead us in a Celebration of August birthdays
  • Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • we will hear invitations after that
  • next Brenda Steinmetz-Vallenas will sing “Love Bade Me Welcome”, with Kim accompanying; poem by George Herbert (1593-1633), music by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
  • then Claire will read Ephesians 4:1-16
  • Rev. Ben Daniel will offer a sermon, “It Takes All Kinds”
  • then we will sing the hymn of response, “We Are One in Christ Jesus”
  • the offering plates will be passed
  • next, we will celebrate communion
  • the closing hymn will be “Lord of All Hopefulness”
  • we will recite the Charge together
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
