Celebration Worship Service, July 28th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • Kim Rankin will play the prelude, “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”, Welsh folk song, arr. Mark Hayes, adapted by Kim Rankin
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • Then Eloise Gilland will lead us in a Call to Celebration (adapted from The Abingdon Worship Annual)
  • The opening hymn will be “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”      
  • Next, Eloise will lead us in a Prayer for Peace, (by Brother Matthew, Prior of the Taizé Community, adapted)
  • Time with Children is next (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • We will hear invitations after that
  • Next the trio of Linda Spencer on bass, Sally Cole-White on alto sax, and Kim Rankin on piano will play “What a Wonderful World” by G.D. Weiss and Bob Thiele, arr. Brent Edstrom, adapted by Kim Rankin
  • Then Eloise will read John 6:1-14
  • Katie will offer a sermon,
  • Then we will sing the hymn of response, “Faith Begins by Letting Go”
  • Next will be a Pastoral Prayer
  • The offering plates will be passed; the offertory will be “Lord, I Want to Be a Christian” African-American spiritual, arr. Deanna Witkowski, adapted by Kim Rankin       
  • The closing hymn will be “Lord, I Want to Be a Christian”
  • We will recite the Charge together
  • There will be a benediction
  • Followed by a postlude


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
