Celebration Worship Service, May 26th, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Celebration is back in the sanctuary! Masks are optional, but encouraged. You also may watch the service on a live stream at home. Please use this option if you aren’t feeling well. To learn more about these choices, please visit mpcfamily.org/celebrate. In order to keep everyone healthy & safe, we will:

  • encourage masking when indoors
  • run the furnace filtration system for ventilation, doors and windows open only when necessary

In celebration this week:

  • The gathering music will be “Peace, Salaam, Shalom” by Pat Humphries
  • Katie Kilby will welcome everyone to Celebration
  • then Karen Ray Gibson will lead us in a Call to Celebration by Helen Weaver, an American writer & translator, 1931-2021
  • The opening hymn will be “This Is My Song”       
  • next, Karen Ray will lead us in a Prayer of Awareness, by John Phillip Newell
  • Time with Children (children will then be dismissed to Godly Play)
  • we will hear invitations after that
  • then the MPC Choir will perform “Al Yadil Yadil Yadi”; a Palestinian folk song, arranged by John Higgins, Kim Rankin directing
  • Karen Ray will read from Romans 12:14-21 and Isaiah 2:4
  • Next we will hear from Rabbi Cat Zavis,
  • then we will sing the song of response, “Od yavo shalom aleinu” (Peace will come upon us, yet) by Mosh Ben-Ari
  • Katie will lead us in a pastoral prayer next
  • the offering plates will be passed while an offertory is played by Gail Onion on the Native Flute
  • the closing song will be “Let There be Peace on Earth” by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson
  • we will recite the Charge together
  • there will be a benediction
  • followed by a postlude, “The Heavens Declare”, Psalm 19, by Benedetto Marcello, played by Marcia Roy


The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Care for Creation. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
