Celebration Worship Service, April 25th

From Rev. Ben –

Like last week, this week’s celebration will have a creation-care focus in honor of Earth Day, and as a way of preparing ourselves for a congregational meeting at 11 AM on Sunday, at which we will vote on actions we can take as a congregation to address climate change.

You can submit comments and prayer requests via our Comments Form at mpcfamily.org/comments . We’d love to hear from you!

If you are visiting today, we hope you’ll fill out our online Visitor Card at mpcfamily.org/hello .

  • Kim will provide a prelude, “Flower Duet” from “Lakmé” by Léo Delibes, accompanied by spring wildflower photos from the Rankin-Keys trip to the redwoods.
  • Talitha will welcome us to celebration,
  • Kit Land will lead us in a call to celebration, using a liturgy from the Iona Community,
  • The opening hymn is “I Sing the Mighty Power of God’,
  • Jean Roggenkamp will lead us in a prayer for peace from the Anglican Church of New Zealand,
  • David Seigenthaler will read Deuteronomy 6:10-15,
  • I will preach a sermon called “Positive Impact”,
  • For special music, Kim will sing “How Great Thou Art”, recorded in Humboldt Redwoods State Park,
  • Talitha will lead us in a pastoral prayer,
  • The closing hymn, “Earth Was Given As a Garden”, is a new hymn set to a familiar tune,
  • For God’s Work in the World we will watch the final climate change video (it’s good; you won’t want to miss it), and
  • I will close the service with a family life video.

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
