Celebration Worship Service, September 27th

From Rev Ben:

We have officially passed the Fall equinox, which means it’s fall. 2020, with all of its craziness is 75% gone, though it seems like there cannot yet remain a quarter of the year. Our community continues to worship each Sunday because we know that by being faithful in our celebrations we bear witness to those things that endure in a changing and uncertain world.

You can submit comments and prayer requests via our Comments Form at mpcfamily.org/comments . We’d love to hear from you!

If you are visiting today, we hope you’ll fill out our online Visitor Card at mpcfamily.org/hello .

  • Marcia’s prelude is based on the Ralph Vaughan Williams tune “King’s Weston”, which also is the tune for our first hymn;
  • Talitha will welcome us,
  • In keeping with our occasional practice of welcoming folks from out of town who join us for celebration, my parents, Karen and Michael Moreland will call us to celebration from Mendocino;
  • Our opening hymn is “At the Name of Jesus” (be sure to listen to the prelude so you can get the tune down;
  • Rick Heller will lead us in a prayer for peace;
  • We will celebrate the baptism of Adah Esther, child of Jennifer Hansen;
  • Bill Neely will read Philippians 2:1-11,
  • I will preach a sermon about the structural nature of humility,
  • The special music is “Jesus Be With Us”;
  • Talitha will lead us in a prayer,
  • The closing hymn is “Be Thou My Vision”,
  • The family life video will contain announcements, an invitation from the auction committee, our charge and a benediction; and
  • This Sunday we will have a postlude: “Shalom Good Friends”, in honor of the Jewish High Holidays.

The Charge (say together) Go out into the world in peace. Have courage; hold on to what is good. Return no one evil for evil. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, and help the suffering. Honor all people. Love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
