On Sunday, December 11 in Celebration, the MPC Choir presents our fall major work, Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest. Conrad Susa (1935-2013) was a prolific composer in many genres who taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Carols and Lullabies was commissioned in 1992 as a companion piece to Benjamin Britten’sCeremony of Carols. Using the sumptuous and unique instrumentation of harp, marimba, and Spanish guitar, Carols and Lullabies is a suite of traditional carols in Spanish and Catalan. Susa described the work as “a Southwestern piñata party for the new baby.” We hope you will join us on the third Sunday in Advent as we celebrate the music and cultures of our neighbors to the south.
