Thank you for considering a donation of plants to the next Montclair Presbyterian Church plant sale ON Saturday, April 18, 2015.
After this past year’s very successful sale (raised almost $2,700), we want to repeat the experience, while being more efficient by laying out these guidelines. We’ve tried to think about what you can bring that will make shoppers want to buy it, plants that will last and how much work will be involved if shoppers don’t want to buy it.
Shoppers want:
good-quality, adequately-established plants,
cared for and ready to be transplanted or put in a decorative pot, as is.
Shoppers expect either:
a lower price than at a commercial nursery – – -OR – – –
are willing to pay a premium price in order to support a good cause
To promote this type of sale, we suggest the following guidelines:
- Types of plants – flowering plants, exotic houseplants, vegetable plants, drought-resistant perennials, succulents, cacti and herbs
- Age of plants – seedlings or juveniles (no cuttings that haven’t rooted) or mature plants
- Containers of plants – preferably plastic for ease of transporting, attractive pottery and good condition clay pots are also acceptable
- Donation – plants need to be brought only within one or two days before the sale because the number of plants will require extensive care to avoid drying out.
- Retrieval of Unsold plants – After the sale (through Family Hour after Celebration, Sunday, April 19) if any of your donated plants are still at church, we would appreciate your taking them back. Otherwise they will be composted.
Thank you so much for supporting MPC!!!
