We are a multigenerational, social justice-oriented community of joyful, imperfect people who welcome absolutely everybody with hospitality, openness and acceptance.

Interfaith Harvest Dinner

The Harvest Dinner is an annual event celebrated by the Faith Trio, a collaboration among three congregations in the Oakland area representing the three “Abrahamic Faiths” of Islam, Judaism and Christianity: the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California, Kehilla Community Synagogue, and Montclair Presbyterian Church. Each group takes turns hosting; MPC was the host in October of 2014.

The season and nutrition guide our menu choices. The host provides the main dish and the other two groups come with salad and dessert. We typically begin in the early evening in order to have plenty of time to gather and greet each other before the dinner. The event often includes music, but always features great company and intriguing conversation topics. Between dinner and dessert, an Interfaith Prayer Exchange is held in which a representative of each congregation reads a prayer (in English) of another tradition than its own to symbolize our solidarity with each other. All church members and friends are welcome.

We hope the Harvest Dinner will be a great opportunity to make positive connections with people of other congregations and faiths.  Please contact Jean Mudge at MPC for details.
