MPC Family Camp 2009
Tahoe Church Family Camp If you’re ready for the warmth of sun and community, then you’re ready for Tahoe Church Family
Camp! For hundreds in the MPC community, Church
Family Camp at Lake Tahoe is a treasured experience. Even if you have never attended
Tahoe Family Camp, please read all this information and seriously consider
joining the MPC Family Camp gathering in June. Try it! It
may become a cherished tradition for you as it has for so many others. Family Camp, by the shore of beautiful
Lake Tahoe at the Richardson Resort, is for MPC families,
singles and couples. It is for YOU. Although
a Presbytery tradition since the mid 70’s, this marks the 32nd
year MPC has organized the event at Camp Richardson. Be renewed and rejuvenated during this week of sun, fun, relaxation and spiritual refreshment. Gain new insights, build new, enduring friendships and deepen existing ties. Scheduled activities for all ages are available, if you choose to participate (but there is no pressure to do so).
MORNING PROGRAMS Adults:
We gather in a moderated session for reflection, discussion and small
group sharing. Community building occurs naturally through shared
experience in the beautiful Lake Tahoe setting.
Our speaker is Therese Des Camp, who will be a guest professor
at the Graduate Theological Union this summer from Canada. Her style
is to discuss complex concepts through story, giving people room to
explore what these might mean for their own lives and their lives in
community. Youth:
Special activities will be planned for junior and senior high school
youth. Susan Hunn directs this program and oversees the program
for children. Children: Grouped according to age, children ages 3-11 participate in arts and crafts, nature projects, short walks and outdoor games. Christine Peterson leads this program. Nursery care is provided for children 2 and younger. ACCOMMODATIONS The accommodations at Richardson’s
Resort include rustic or deluxe cabins, campsites for tents or RVs,
and rooms at the Lodge. We are responsible for our own meals.
There is a café that serves breakfast and lunch and a small grocery
store at the resort. Supermarkets and restaurants are close by
in South Lake Tahoe. Sorry, no pets are allowed. At MPC we share open communion and at Tahoe Family Camp we share open campfire! Please feel free to drop by and share the fire’s warmth with your Church Family. SCHEDULE Arrive Saturday or Sunday, June 13th or 14th. Camp formally begins Sunday evening with dessert and fireside get-together. Each weekday morning (except Wednesday – a free day) we meet for group singing and brief reflection and then split up for the programs described on the previous page. Afternoon is a time to "do your own thing." The beautiful Lake Tahoe beach is a short walk away. Excursions, boating, fishing, bicycling, hiking, horseback riding and games are among our many options. Evening activities center around the campfire with singing, a barbecue at the beach, movie night in the campground, shared meals, and Skit/Talent Night. After a wonderful week together we conclude Saturday morning with a brief sharing time and communion service. REGISTRATION and RESERVATIONS March 15th - June 7th Download the Registration Form (90K PDF) Registration Fees (to pay staff
and purchase supplies): No fee for children less than 2 years
of age. $40 for first child 2-18 years of age, $20 for each additional
child in family. $50 per person for adults 19 and older.
Fees will be prorated if you do not
spend the entire week. Cabin Fees: Cabins range from $711 to $2123 per week, depending upon type. "Summer- only" cabins range from $711 to $900 and accommodate
up to 5 people. Deluxe cabins range from $1026 to $2123 and accommodate
up to 8. A $300 deposit is payable at time of registration with
the full balance due no later than May 3rd. Under the
Richardson’s Resort cancellation policy any cancellation after May
1st may result in having to forfeit 50% of the entire rental
fee. Written notice of cancellation is due to the Resort at least
7 days before arrival or the entire cabin fee may be forfeited.
All refunds and changes are subject to a $25 processing fee by Richardson’s
Resort. Floor plans will be available during registration to
assist you in selecting a cabin. Lodge Rooms: Available at
$105-$165 per night depending upon day of the week. King size,
queen size or double beds, private baths, but no cooking facilities.
Reserve early as lodge rooms go quickly. Camping: The most
economical way to go: $28 per night. Even if you have never camped,
be assured scores of expert campers will be anxious to assist with a
helping hand in every aspect of the art! Registration for camping
will take place each Sunday from March 15th through June 7th,
at which time registration fees and the campsite rental fee are payable.
Camp Richardson defines a campsite as two tents and one vehicle.
Extra vehicles may be charged $5 per day by Camp Richardson. If you desire a specific campsite and
cannot arrive until Sunday or later, you may choose to pay the per night
fee to reserve a specific site. Your favorite campsite will be
available upon your arrival! RV Park:
Camp Richardson offers a separate campground for RVs requiring water
and electricity hook-ups. Check at the registration table for
